Published, Professional Makeup Artist, Chanel Haughton, whose alias was initially “ProfessChanel,” graduated from Empire Beauty School, in 2003. Her alias originated from her hosting platform, where she owned and engineered a female empowerment group in NYC called “D.I.V.A.S - Determined Individuals with a Vengeance to Achieve Success.” In D.I.V.A.S, the vision was to provide an empowering community of support for creative, ambitious women, in which to create opportunities for connection and growth through open forums of conversation featuring accomplished female entrepreneurs sharing their entrepreneurial journey. These meaningful conversations happened over brunch, at different restaurants across NYC, creating the perfect mix of connection, empowerment, and good vibes. But her passion for empowering women did not start there, this seed was planted years prior with first empowering herself as an aspiring model at the age of 15. Chanel enrolled as a student of Mable Bailey Modeling School, in Columbus, GA. She traveled for modeling competitions such as the Hilton Head Modeling Convention in Hilton Head, SC, and walked for major retail stores in her local and neighboring malls. She even placed as 2nd Runner Up in Commercial, where she performed a “Got Milk?” commercial- skit, on the runway, at the Hilton Head Modeling Convention. Her pursuit in modeling was interrupted due to a lack of resources and visibility - living in a small town. But this small town welcomed a woman-owned, small black business that welcomed Chanel, at the age of 16, who apprenticed as a nail technician. Unfortunately, the position did not last until she graduated high school, as she intentionally planned, because the nail salon did not. Remaining optimistic about her future, Chanel transitioned from being just a self-taught “kitchen-sink hairstylist” to mastering new skills as a nail technician. With just one year of high school left, she spent her junior year envisioning and manifesting her return to Brooklyn, New York.
By Fall, Chanel enrolled at Empire Cosmetology School, then known as the Learning Institution for Beauty Sciences (LIBS), while balancing a second-shift job. Now relocated back to New York, as an independent, 18-year-old, her pursuit of financial independence evolved into a deeper need for financial stability. Modeling opportunities were now within reach but did not come with a paycheck - and she wasn’t yet randomly discovered in a Manhattan coffee shop by a Wilhelmina model scout. Money was (and will always be) the motive and driving force! After graduating from cosmetology school, Chanel began her career as a hairstylist at a Bronx hair salon. True to her essence, she embraced the creative pursuits that have always been second nature to her. Her innate artistry paved the way for greater opportunities, eventually allowing her to make her mark across New York City. Makeup felt like a seamless extension of her creative talents - Chanel had always been a natural with a pencil, paintbrush, or even crayons in hand. Her artistic talent was evident early on, earning her a small scholarship in elementary school after winning first place in a D.A.R.E. poster competition. She was also entrusted with designing the program cover for her sixth-grade chorus performance. With a foundation in art and a formal education in cosmetology, Chanel naturally transitioned into becoming a self-taught makeup artist. Her freelancing quickly gained attention, leading to collaborations with prominent public figures and PR teams. Determined to solidify her place in the industry, Chanel pursued a professional makeup certification while continuously learning from the artistry of renowned makeup artists and YouTube makeup enthusiasts. This dedication not only refined her skills but also boosted her confidence, allowing her to keep up the pace of evolving beauty trends. Embracing her journey, she often says she is “forever a student.” Chanel’s signature lies in her mastery of the natural glow, earning her the self-proclaimed title of the Goddess Glow Queen - a service she proudly delivers to her clients. Chanel thoroughly enjoyed the art of creating and the visual aesthetics of beauty, so she never made an excuse to be subservient to the beauty industry. Chanel has worked with a number of talents/public figures/models/celebrities, all while getting social media recognition by some of your favorite celebrities, such as Karen Civil, Sunshine “Sunny Money Queens” Simth-Williams, Bobby Pen, Shamea Morton, Jessica “Jypsy” White, Briana Camille, Lisa Yaro and more. There are still names that she would love to work with, as well as makeup veterans that she would love to sit with but know that you can always sit with her.
